Story & Themes
LEGO The Hobbit is a fairly accurate retelling of the first two Hobbit films. Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who enjoys the comforts of home, is coerced into joining a group of dwarves and Gandalf the wizard as they attempt to recover the Lonely Mountain from the dragon Smaug. While nothing too major in the storyline is changed, some plot details are left out. It is therefore recommended that players see the movies (or read the book) in order to fully appreciate and comprehend the game.
Save Points
The game features checkpoint statues that can be used to save the game during levels. The "Save and Quit" option can be used in the middle of levels to save collectibles found but not the progress in the level itself.
Difficulty
LEGO The Hobbit can be enjoyed by all ages, and the gameplay should not be too challenging for younger kids.
Heads Up!
Violence All violence in The Hobbit is "cartoony" and PG rated. Characters use swords, bows, and magic to fight fantasy creatures. When killed, the creatures dissolve into Lego pieces.
Scary Imagery The dragon, Smaug, could be considered scary, though his Lego form is much more kid friendly than his movie version.
Strong Language There is occasional, but mild, crude humor.
Consumerism LEGO The Hobbit encourages consumerism at a basic level with its specific tie-ins to Lego toy products. Don't be surprised if younger kids want to purchase the toys after playing the game.
