Story & Themes
The Courier, the customizable playable character, is delivering a package to New Vegas when he is intercepted by a man named Benny and left for dead after being shot in the head. The Courier is then rescued by a robot named Victor, and he/she wakes up in the small town of Goodsprings in the Mojave Desert.

The rest of the game follows the Courier as he/she follows after Benny and uncovers the mystery surrounding his/her attempted murder, at the heart of which lies the "Platinum Chip". The player can choose to pursue certain storylines, make allies (or enemies) of certain factions, and ultimately decide the fate of the Mojave Desert region.
Save Points
Fallout: New Vegas saves automatically at certain points, such as after the player has slept, fast-forwarded time by waiting, or entered a new building. The game can also be saved manually at almost any time.
Difficulty
Depending on one's experience with similar games, Fallout: New Vegas might pose a challenge. Fighting is not meant to be easy, and can in fact be fairly stressful. The different difficulty settings affect the toughness of enemies and hardiness of your companions.
Heads Up!
Violence Fighting in Fallout: New Vegas can be intense and bloody, with players using a variety of melee and gun weapons. Dismemberment is common and mildly graphic.
Scary Imagery Some of the mutated creatures can be scary, especially if they sneak up on you at night.
Sex & Nudity In the game, you can encounter prostitutes of both genders, as well as a sexbot. However, sexual content is merely implied and never shown.
Strong Language Strong swearing can be heard throughout, such as f*ck and sh*t.
Substance Use The player can choose to use drugs to increase things like damage and damage resistance. Repeated use of a drug will result in addiction, and if the player does not continue to use the drug they will experience withdrawal symptoms.
Discrimination The open world of Fallout: New Vegas contains a diverse cast of characters. Representation is varied and positive for characters of different ethnic backgrounds, genders, and sexual orientations. The Courier can be greatly customized, and players can even choose to give him/her a sexual orientation should they wish to.
