Beloved indie developer 11 bit studios are releasing their next strategy game, The Alters, later this year on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. It will also arrive on Xbox Game Pass.
The Alters is a base-building survival game with a big focus on narrative. Jan Dolski is the sole survivor of a crash landing on an alien planet. He’s left with a large, mobile base that requires a full team to operate. Thankfully he has one crucial tool: cloning.
With the help of the planet’s unique natural resource, Dolski can clone alternate versions of himself. Each Alter made different choices in life, and has slightly different personalities, goals, and ambitions. Managing the Alters is as important as expanding the base and exploring the planet.
Fans know that 11 bit studios doesn’t make bad games, from This War of Mine to Frostpunk. They’re known for serious, emotional storytelling and survival with strategic gameplay. They also have a good record as publisher of other indies, including Moonlighter and Creatures of Ava.
The Alters was initially scheduled for early 2025. This week’s announcement delays the strategy game to later this year. A new release date has not yet been announced.
A free demo for The Alters is available on Steam. It has not yet been rated, but has been flagged for Mature content by the developers.
