Later this month, a new Developer Direct from Xbox partner studios will showcase upcoming games coming to Xbox and PC later this year. Xbox Developer Direct 2025 is scheduled for January 23 at 10am Pacific/1pm Eastern.
At least three developers have been confirmed for the showcase.
Id Software will show off DOOM: The Dark Ages, a prequel story to the well-received reboot from 2016. The prequel looks more medieval than sci-fi, and tells the origin story of the Doom Slayer.
Compulsion Games will show more of South of Midnight, a game first announced back at the Xbox Games Showcase in 2023. South of Midnight is a third-person action-adventure set in the Deep South of the US, enriched by folklore, magic, and monsters.
The third game is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a spiffy-looking RPG from new studio Sandfall Interactive. Clair Obsur is a refreshingly turn-based RPG inspired by Persona and Final Fantasy. It’s set in a fantasy world inspired by 19th century French paintings.
The direct teases at least one more surprise developer, as they announce a brand new game.
Xbox is riding high after the successful release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle in December, followed soon by anticipated RPG Avowed in February. In last year’s Developer Direct, only Avowed didn’t make its initial 2024 release date.
