During the PlayStation State of Play, developer Sucker Punch Productions announced a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima: Ghost of Yōtei, along with a brand new protagonist.

Ghost of Yōtei takes place in 1603, 300 years after the events of the first game. The new Ghost is Atsu, though Sucker Punch isn’t revealing any story or character details just yet. Atsu will explore the region of Hokkaido around Mount Yōtei, a much less settled region of tundras and grasslands.

“When we set out to make a new Ghost game, we wanted to maintain the core pillars established in Ghost of Tsushima: playing as a wandering warrior in Feudal Japan, offering freedom to explore at your own pace, and highlighting the beauty of the world,” writes Andrew Goldfarb, Sucker Punch Productions. “At Sucker Punch we love origin stories, and we wanted to explore what it could mean to have a new hero wearing a Ghost mask, and uncovering a new legend. This led us to Ghost of Yōtei: a new protagonist, a new story to unfold, and a new region of Japan to explore.”

Ghost of Yōtei is Sucker Punch’s first game natively designed for the PlayStation 5. It’s coming next year, but a specific release date has not yet been announced.

Ghost of Yōtei has not yet been rated by the ESRB (but likely M for Mature).
