Naughty Dog and Sony have announced The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, coming to PlayStation 5 on January 19, 2024.

Pardon my snark, but The Last of Us Part 2 released only three years ago on PlayStation 4. And yet, Naughty Dog is putting together a richly packed update that’s more than just enhanced 4k graphics, haptic feedback, and improved loading times that come with the more powerful PlayStation 5.

The remaster also includes an all-new roguelike game mode called No Return. In No Return, players can play as different playable characters at they try to survive randomized combat encounters and scenarios. No Return features its own online leaderboard and progression system for unlocking new characters and skins.

Other new features include a Guitar Free Play mode, an unlockable Speed Run mode, and playable Lost Levels, which are unfinished (and ultimately cut) levels that feature developer commentary.

If you already own The Last of Us Part 2, you’ll be able to upgraded to the Remastered version for only $10, as well as import saves. Nice!

A special physical version, the W.L.F. Edition will be available directly from the PlayStation store, and includes a SteelBook case, four pins, and dozens of trading cards.

Pre-orders start on December 5. The Last of Us Part 2 is rated M for Mature.
