This morning at E3, Nintendo previewed a new game mode for Pokémon Sun and Moon: a four-player Battle Royale.

With a tropical setting and an attention to bringing in new players across the world, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon feel like warm invitations to Pokémon players of all levels. The new starter Pokémon – Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio – are cute all the way down to the way they move, and were designed to be intuitive for new players.

Pokémon players new and old, however, will be excited to take their Pokémon into a new four-player battle known as a Battle Royale (currently spelled “Battle Royal” in the still-in-development game UI). It’s a free-for-all battle as trainers can use their best strategies to take on three other trainers.

The first trainer to lose all of their Pokémon signals the end of the battle. Points are tallied based on Pokémon defeated and those remaining, and a winner is chosen.

Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon will hit game store shelves this November.
