After eight years we’re finally getting a sequel to Planet Coaster! Frontier Developments have officially announced Planet Coaster 2, which releases this fall for PC (Steam, Epic), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Planet Coaster 2 is another theme park simulator from the designers of Planet Zoo and Jurassic World Evolution.

The biggest new addition are water parks, something that was notably absent from the original Planet Coaster and its many DLC packs. Players can create a fully functioning water park with lazy rivers, flume rides, water coasters, and all the scenery you’d expect to find.

The sequel features preset and customized rides and new event sequences, allowing rides to sync with animatronics and other scenery.

Planet Coaster 2 will launch with a familiar Career Mode of preset scenarios, a Franchise Mode for connecting with the global community, and a Sandbox Mode of freeform building.

Players can also visit each other’s parks to test rides, or create shared parks via Sandbox Mode. And as with previous Frontier sims, players can customize and share their creations (including entire parks) via the Frontier Workshop.

Frontier Developments will host monthly livestreams on the final Wednesday of each month leading up to release.

Earlier this year, Frontier confirmed a threequel to Jurassic World Evolution, as well as two other sim games. We now know that Planet Coaster 2 is one of those games, and the first to release. Jurassic World Evolution 3 is due out next year.

Planet Coaster 2 will release this fall. It has not yet been rated by the ESRB (but the original is E for Everyone).
