Warner Bros. and DC have revealed a cinematic story trailer for the upcoming superhero fighter sequel, Injustice 2. The lengthy trailer depicts the fallout from the dark, alternate timeline show in the first Injustice game.

Spoiler alert for the first Injustice! The Joker tricks Superman and a pregnant Lois Lane ends up dead. Superman finally snaps, becoming a god-like villainous overlord. The campaign ends with you defeating Superman, which is why he’s imprisoned in the trailer.

The story trailer mostly focuses on Batman and Superman, which makes sense given the recent blockbuster film. However we also get a nifty fight scene between Wonder Woman and new fighter Supergirl. The ending also reveals new character Darkseid as a pre-order incentive.

The Injustice series is developed by NetherRealm Studios, better known for the Mortal Kombat series. Mortal Kombat has been revitalized in the last few years thanks to solid fighting mechanics and fun, violent campaigns. Injustice is built in much the same way, and could be considered the PG-13 series to Mortal Kombat’s hard R.

Injustice is a superhero story, but be aware it’s a bit darker than your normal Marvel or DC fare. The sequel hasn’t yet been rated, but the first game received a T for Teen from the ESRB.

Injustice 2 is coming on May 16 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A Digital Deluxe Edition nets you three DLC fighters and an extra Supergirl Skin. An Ultimate Edition gets you even more DLC fighters and skins.
