New Research: Gaming Associated With Increase in Brain Volume

Posted by | Tips for Parents | No Comments

A new study from the Max Planck Institute for Human Development, published in the journal Molecular Psychology, has found a direct, causal relationship between playing video games and increases in the brain regions responsible for spatial orientation, memory formation, and fine motor skills.

This research could have important use in treatment for patients with mental disorders where these brain regions are impacted, such as schizophrenia, PTSD, and Alzheimer’s. Psychiatrist Jürgen Gallinat, who co-authored the study, added: “Many patients will accept video games more readily than other medical interventions.”
