Developer Airship Syndicate along with publisher THQ Nordic have released Battle Chasers: Nightwar. It’s available on PC (Windows and Mac), PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a Nintendo Switch version…
After an exciting leak this morning that lead to an image of Darksiders III in Amazon, THQ Nordic came forward and officially announced Darksiders 3. It’s due in 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
“As promised, we have taken our time to ensure that this next Darksiders will be everything action-adventure gamers and especially Darksiders loyalists could dream of and more,” said Lars Wingefors, co-founder and CEO of THQ Nordic.
THQ is working with Gunfire Games, who includes several prominent developers from the now defunct Vigil Games, makers of the two-game Darksiders series (for the rest of the Vigil Team, see Battle Chasers: Nightwar).
“The Gunfire team brings an intimate involvement with every aspect of the Darksiders franchise since its inception,” said Reinhard Pollice, Director of Product Development, THQ Nordic. “There is simply no team better qualified to create Darksiders III, beginning with our unpredictable and enigmatic hero Fury – a mage who is considered the most powerful of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse!”
Like the second game, Darksiders III will tell another side-story starring one of the Four Horsemen during and after the apocalypse. Or should we say Horsepeople? Darksiders III’s protagonist is the female Horsemen Fury (in Darksiders lore, the Horsemen are War, Death, Fury, and Strife). She’s described as more of a mage-style character with a wicked whip. But the series is still very much action-oriented, with plenty of Zelda-style dungeons and puzzles.
As a fan of the series, I’m a bit disappointed that we’re getting yet another single-character focused side-story. The first Darksiders game has one of the most promising endings around, but we’ve yet to have a proper sequel that stars all four of them. Still, more Darksiders is definitely a good thing. Darksiders III is slated for release in 2018.
