Be the Best Lara Croft in Tomb Raider Legends: The Board Game

Posted by | News | No Comments

Square Enix has announced a cardboard version of their hit Tomb Raider franchise. It’s called Tomb Raider Legends: The Board Game, and it’s developed in partnership with Crystal Dynamics and Hobby Japan Co. It has a suggested retail price of $59.99, and should arrive February 2019.

The board game is designed for 3-4 players with a run time of about 40 minutes. It has a suggested age of 13+.

Judging by the artwork it looks to encompass the full arc of the series, rather than just the rebooted trilogy. Each player plays a different version of Lara Croft as they race around a modular board. Use skills, wits, and tools to explore ruins, fend off enemies, and search for hidden treasures. This biggest threat is Lara herself – the other players.

This year, and July specifically, marks the 25th anniversary for Crystal Dynamics. Crystal Dynamics is best known for the venerable Tomb Raider franchise, which has collectively sold over 58 million copies. To celebrate, the developers have partnered with GameChanger to offer an exclusive 25th Anniversary game bundle.

“This is a momentous milestone for Crystal Dynamics, one we’re delighted to share with gamers everywhere by using this time to give back to charities that move and inspire us,” said Scot Amos, Co-Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics. “Our studio is full of passionate creatives who shaped Lara Croft and Tomb Raider into iconic franchises. Our developers constantly give of themselves, pouring their heart and their art into each game. Now we are giving back in another way through this GameChanger campaign.”

GameChanger gives money to children’s hospitals to support financial aid and video game gift packages. Like a Humble Bundle, the 25th Anniversary bundle features different tiers of games you can purchase depending on how much you wish to donate. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to the GameChanger Charity.

“At Crystal Dynamics, we continually push ourselves to try and master the craft of storytelling through art, animation and innovation,” said Noah Hughes, Franchise Creative Director at Crystal Dynamics. “Our Crystal Dynamics 25th Anniversary game bundle provides an awesome sampling of that creativity. We’re confident that longtime fans as well as new players will jump at the opportunity to play all of this amazing history in a single download while contributing to children’s hospitals through our partnership with GameChanger.”

For a measly $1 you receive several older, non-Tomb Raider titles from Crystal Dynamics’ library:

  • Legacy of Kain: Defiance
  • Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
  • Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain
  • Project Snowblind
  • Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2
  • Pandemonium

Bump your pay up to $15 and you’ll receive several new and old Tomb Raider titles:

  • Tomb Raider (2013)
  • Tomb Raider: Underworld
  • Tomb Raider: Anniversary
  • Tomb Raider: Legend
  • Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
  • Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris

For $25 you receive all 12 games in the bundle. If you want to go above and beyond, $50 will also get you a GameChanger Charity swag pack. All game purchases are in the form of digital PC Steam keys. The goal is to raise $40,000 by the end of July.
