Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have announced the newest Pokémon in Pokémon Sword and Shield. Sirfetch’d is the evolved form of Farfetch’d, and it’s exclusive to Pokémon Sword.

Sirfetch’d is known as the Wild Duck Pokémon. It evolves from Farfetch’d in the Galar region of Pokémon Sword “after many battles.” In this evolved form the bird Pokémon has the Fighting type, and has transformed its leek into a mighty lance and shield. In the Galar region there’s a famous painting depicting a duel between Sirfetch’d and Escavalier.

Sirfetch’d has the Steadfast Ability, as well as the new Meteor Assault move that’s exclusive to Sirfetch’d. When using Meteor Assault, Sirfetch’d launches forward with its lance. Meteor Assault is a powerful move that requires Sifretch’d to rest for the following turn.

Farfetch’d was introduced back in the first generation of Pokémon games, as a Normal/Flying dual type. Farfetch’d isn’t the first older Pokémon to receive a new evolved form. Gen 1 Pokémon like Magmar and Electabuzz would later receive evolved forms in Gen 4. Starting with Pokémon Sun and Moon (Gen 7), several Gen 1 Pokémon were given Alolan variants, such as Sandshrew, Vulpix, Exeggutor, and Ratatta.

Pokémon Sword and Shield are coming to Nintendo Switch on November 15. It’s rated E for Everyone.
