Capcom has announced a partnership with animation studio Pure Imagination Studios to produce an animated special based on Capcom’s Monster Hunter franchise. It’s called Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild, and is expected to premiere in 2019.

Legends of the Guild tells the story of a young hunter out to prove himself as a monster hunter. He’ll have his chance when he discovers that his village is directly in the path of an Elder Dragon, the strongest monsters in the Monster Hunter world.

“We are thrilled to return fans to the universe of Monster Hunter and expand the series’ rich lore,” said Ryozo Tsujimoto, Monster Hunter producer at Capcom. “We think die-hard fans will appreciate our dedication to the source material while those uninitiated to the series will still be treated to an epic adventure in a wholly unique world.”

The Monster Hunter series has been successful in Japan for years, but nothing has come close to the level of success brought by Monster Hunter: World. Monster Hunter: World released globally in January and has gone on to become Capcom’s fastest-selling game in company history. It’s available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and allows up to four players to join together to hunt monsters online. It’s coming to PC next month.

Pure Imagination Studios has experience turning licenses into animated shows and films, including LEGO and Marvel.

“With Monster Hunter, our talented and diverse group of animators, storytellers and producers, who have created content for LEGO, Marvel and Star Wars, are collaborating with Capcom to create a powerful and engaging story universe to serve its enormous global fanbase,” said John P. Roberts, Chief Content Officer at Pure Imagination Studios.
