Crowdfunding and investment site Fig’s latest campaign is a mystery RPG from SWERY’s indie studio White Owls called The Good Life. The ambitious crowdfunding campaign is seeking $1.5 million, with PC (Steam) and PlayStation 4 as supported platforms. The campaign officially begins September 2, but previous Fig backers can pledge funds right now through the backstage program.

“From the bottom of my heart, I feel so proud to be announcing this game with Fig, a next-generation publisher,” said Hidetaka “SWERY” Suehiro. “This game will inherit the spirit of Deadly Premonition, my most representative work, but it will also feature a brand new style of gameplay. It’s a mystery game based on the framework of a ‘daily life RPG.’ I’m positive that the happiest town in the world and the most bizarre townspeople in the world will capture your heart and pull you deep into their world. Please support The Good Life and help us bring this game to life.”

The Good Life is a social or ‘daily life’ RPG. You play as Naomi, a photographer who travels to the odd small town of Rainy Woods in rural England. Rainy Woods is home to many personable characters who operate on a full 24 hour schedule. Every night everyone transforms into cats – including Naomi. During the day you can take pictures of bizarre goings-on, and at night you can explore nooks and crannies in cat-form.

SWERY is the Japanese game designer behind cult classic mystery horror game Deadly Premonition and mystery adventure game D4: Dreams Don’t Die. The Good Life looks to continue this trend as a mystery RPG, as Naomi soon discovers the murdered body of a young woman.

SWERY formed White Owls last year and The Good Life represents their debut title. They will collaborate with other developers G-rounding and Camouflaj to produce and develop The Good Life.

The Good Life will be available in multiple bundles and reward options on Fig. The minimum pledge that grants a copy of the game is $29. Higher bundles will grant the soundtrack, wallpapers, and a digital guidebook. The listed estimated time of launch is Q3 2019.

The crowdfunding goal of $1.5 million is extremely high for a completely new property. But the internet loves both cats and SWERY. I fully expect The Good Life to meet its goal, and the late 2019 release feels more realistic than most campaigns.

The Good Life will officially launch its Fig campaign September 2.
