Morphite’s original fall release date has just gotten an upgrade. The sci-fi shooter with an emphasis on exploration will now be launching on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in addition to both PC and iOS. First announced back in May of 2016, Morphite will simultaneously launch on each of these platforms on September 7th. European fans can already preorder the game for PS4.

Players may remember developer Crescent Moon Games from their previous iOS titles like the Ravensword series or Mines of Mars. For this project, Crescent Moon is partnering with We’re Five Games and Blowfish Studios to create a more expansive experience. Morphite takes inspiration from the likes of Metroid Prime and Ratchet and Clank, both classic console titles. With these roots, it’s no surprise that the developers decided to bring their game to current generation consoles instead of simply releasing it for PC and mobile platforms.

Morphite takes place in the vast expanse of space, a setting that might be familiar to fans of No Man’s Sky. Like No Man’s Sky, Morphite is an open-world sci-fi game that encourages players to explore and discover new things. However, Morphite’s main story is limited to 15 hand-crafted planets. Those wishing to explore an infinite, procedurally-generated universe can do so, but only outside of the story.

Speaking of the story, Morphite follows protagonist Myrah Kale whose mission into deep space leads her to confront her past. While on the job, Myrah discovers that her own history is mysteriously intertwined with a precious substance known as Morphite. In order to sort out what she has just uncovered, Myrah has to journey through the galaxy and navigate a series of uncharted planets, both beautiful and dangerous, until she finds the truth.

Once again, Morphite launches this fall on Thursday, September 7th. The game will be available for iOS, PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.
