For most of its five year run October has been the month of Skylanders. This year October sees the release of Netflix series Skylanders Academy as well as the sixth game, Skylanders Imaginators. Activision Blizzard is celebrating with a month’s worth of promos and tie-in deals, beginning with free mobile app Skylanders Creator.

Skylanders Creator utilizes the unique Build-Your-Own-Skylander character creator from the upcoming game. Instead of buying figures to unlock new parts, you can earn three daily chests that contain new gear and weapons.

Skylanders CreatorThe app lets you purchase physical items using your custom Skylander. You can order a 3D printed figure, a T-Shirt, or a trading card. The card and figure allow you to transfer your creation to Skylanders Imaginators.

“Since we first pioneered toys-to-life, fans have been clamoring for ways to express their love of Skylanders. Now with the Skylanders Creator app and the launch of Skylanders Imaginators, the sky is the limit,” said Paul Reiche, studio head at Toys For Bob, the developer of the game. “This year, Skylanders is putting the power of creation in the hands of fans in ways never before imagined. We can’t wait to see the millions of Imaginators that will be dreamed up by our Portal Masters around the world.”

The app should be launching soon, and will be available on iOS and Android devices.

A contest for 3D-printed Skylanders begins October 24. Simply create a custom Skylander and use the hashtag #CreatorContest on Social media sites to win a 3D-printed figure.

Skylanders Imaginators launches October 16 in the US. Skylanders Academy will premiere on October 28 on Netflix.
