Developer Level-5 presented the first official trailer for upcoming sequel Yo-Kai Watch 2 at E3. Yo-Kai Watch 2 features a much larger world and a bigger roster of Yo-Kai. Over 100 new Yo-Kai bring the total roster to over 350. Previous boss monsters from the first game will become attainable in the sequel.

The sequel also offers a more expanded world. In addition to the large town of Springdale there’s the small village of Harrisville and city by the sea San Fantastico (great name).

The major change (and possible spoiler) in the series is the ability to travel back in time. With the help of Hovernyan (the darker Jibanyan featured in the box art) you’ll travel back 60 years and hang out with Nate’s grandfather. You’ll also meet and befriend Classic Yo-Kai. These Yo-Kai are only found in the past and are more heavily modeled in Japanese folklore and mythology.

The biggest surprise was the addition of a four player local co-op mode called Yo-Kai Busters. Here up to four players can join a single game as actual Yo-Kai. You run around a darker version of the world, not unlike Terror Time. You also battle foes directly on screen, creating a more action-packed experience.

Yo-Kai Watch 2 is being released as two separate versions, similar to the main Pokémon titles. They are the oddly creepily named Yo-Kai Watch 2: Bony Souls and Yo-Kai Watch 2: Fleshy Spirits. Like Pokémon each version contains several exclusive characters to promote trading. The North American box art was revealed during the stream.

Both versions of Yo-Kai Watch 2 are coming September 30 for Nintendo 3DS.
