Unlike Disney Infinity and Skylanders, Warner Bros. had no interest in making a whole new game for LEGO Dimensions on a yearly basis. Instead they planned to release expanded universes for the base game, which was released last year. Well, they just announced that no fewer than 16 new properties would be making their way into the game.

The 16 properties really have something for everyone. There are recent franchises that will appeal to kids, but there are also a number of franchises from the early 80s that should make us parents pretty excited as well. At least I know I am.

“We’ve built upon the existing LEGO Dimenstons Starter Pack to expand the gameplay possibilities with entirely new LEGO experiences that can’t be found anywhere else,” said Tom Stone, Managing Director, TT Games (the developer of LEGO Dimensions.) “We can now provide players with even more customization and mash-up opportunities, and all are compatible with the existing game and packs. Battle Arenas also introduce a fun new way for friends and family to join the action together and battle as favorite characters, which is an exciting innovation for LEGO video games.”

Are you ready? Here’s the list of properties:

  • Ghostbusters
  • Adventure Time
  • Mission: Impossible
  • Harry Potter
  • The A-Team
  • Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
  • LEGO Batman
  • The Goonies
  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Teen Titans Go!
  • LEGO City Undercover
  • Knight Rider
  • The Powerpuff Girls
  • Gremlins
  • Beetlejuice
  • ET: The Extraterrestrial

A number of these almost made my head explode. Goonies, Gremlins, Beetlejuice and ET were some of my favorite movies growing up.

This announcement comes on the heels of Activision’s announcement of Skylanders Imaginators and the announcement that Disney Infinity is bowing out of the race. The first set of packs will hit store shelves on September 30. That’s before the planned release of Skylanders Imaginators. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out this holiday season.
