Playtonic Games announced last year that they’re working on a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie. Called Yooka-Laylee the game features a chameleon (Yooka) and a bat (Laylee) as they battle against the “cunning buzness executive Capital B. Now the developer has released some new details and screenshots from the game.

Capital B is on a mission to steal all of the world’s literature and turn it into profits. Yooka and Laylee will have to navigate through different worlds within Capital B’s headquarters to get to the Grand Tomes. Playtonic said in a post on their website that they’re basically setting the stage for future games.yooka-laylee

“Our ambition with Yooka-Laylee is to create a story and cast of characters that will live on as part of future Playtonic Games, so you can be sure there will be plenty of secrets, back stories and punch lines to discover when you join the Lizard and Bat on their epic adventure.”

The gameplay will be a classic 3D puzzle platformer with lots and lots of collectibles. Those who backed the game on Kickstarter will get their hands on a “toy box” mode this summer that will give them a feel for how the game will play. Playtonic promises that this is a standalone experience and not just a demo of the first level of the game.
