Lapsed Final Fantasy XIV players can go back to the game for free for 96 hours during December. Did you think you could escape? (You can never escape.)

Square Enix is launching a “Free Login Campaign” along with Patch 3.1. users whose accounts have lapsed can come back at no cost for 96 hours between now and December 31. Anyone who has purchased and registered the game, but whose account has been inactive for at least 30 days, can partake in the free period. It will begin as soon as you’ve logged back in. Square Enix cautions that if you log in less than 96 hours before the December deadline, you won’t be able to play through the whole 96 hours–it will end on the 31 no matter what.

It’s worth noting that it seems like the log-in period, while technically lasting four days, will end at 11:59 pm on the 4th day regardless of when you started. The wording is a bit unclear, but be aware that starting your 96-hour session in the evening might cut your time short. The specific wording can be found on the website, so you can take a look and decide for yourself if you want to risk it.

The 3.1 patch also includes new raids and dungeons, as well as a new mini-game. FFXIV’s latest release was the Heavensward expansion, which came out last summer.
