Five new expansion packs for LEGO Dimensions were released today, for Doctor Who, LEGO Ninjago, The Simpsons, and The LEGO Movie. Any of these expansion-pack characters will be able to unlock its corresponding Adventure World in LEGO Dimensions.

Doctor Who expansion pack.

The packs include an additional level, some buildable characters, several vehicles, and a few gadgets that unlock special in-game abilities.

  • The Doctor Who Level Pack is the one with the new level, “The Dalek Extermination of Earth.” In this level, “the Doctor must prevent the Daleks from taking over London by travelling through time and space and even to the furthest extents of the galaxy. Equipped with his TARDIS, he is able to navigate the passageways of time and space to solve mysteries and avert hostile alien invasions.  Players can activate the Doctor’s special Hacking, Technology, Fix-it and Doctor Regenerate option to help him solve in-game puzzles and defeat menacing enemies. The TARDIS and K-9 models can each be physically built and then rebuilt twice to do entirely different things in the digital game for massive variety.” Sounds pretty sweet. Fans of Doctor Who will also be pleased that the 12th Doctor minifigure will enable 12 in-game Doctors, as well as the TARDIS and K-9 as playable characters.

  • The Ninjago Team pack will allow players to use golden Ninja weapons and a bunch of other skills and abilities.
  • The Simpson’s Fun Pack will activate special abilities for Bart and Krusty the Clown. Players will  be able to rebuild the clown bike into an Cannon Bike and an Anti-Gravity Rocket Bike.
  • The LEGO Movie Fun Pack will provide the Unkitty minifigure with special abilities.

This expansion also introduces the “Hire-a-Hero” feature. This feature will allow players to sample some of the Wave 1 expansion pack characters. “Players can select the hologram minifigure near certain hint stones to unlock characters for a limited time to try out their special abilities to solve problems and complete puzzles. Characters from subsequent waves of expansion packs will be added in the future.”

LEGO Dimensions is available on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 and 4, as well as the Nintendo Wii U.
