Plants Vs. Zombies: educational? It certainly has potential.

The game is all about problem-solving—it’s a puzzle game that pits plants against zombies (quite literally) in a struggle to keep control (or take control) of the yard. Players have to strategically plant different types of flowers in order to keep the undead from breaking into the house.

GlassLab has managed to develop the game’s potential in full, however, and they’ve created an educational edition of Plants vs. Zombies 2 called Use Your Brainz EDU. This new version includes assessment tools for teachers, a student report dashboard with four areas of competency, a special math course, and even external lesson plans. Otherwise Use Your Brainz EDU is the same as the original PvZ 2.

“Good game design mirrors good learning design,” GlassLab says. “The work was done for us by the PopCap team. All we had to do was make the learning visible.”
